Foundations
Once the land is cleared the actual construction of your home can commence. This starts with excavating so that foundations can be formed and concrete poured when the weather conditions are right.
The construction management objective is to get the foundations in place as soon as blueprints are available and permits have been obtained. Cement cannot be poured below freezing temperatures without special procedures.
The foundation is poured in three stages. Footings and walls must be poured before construction can start. The interior slab is usually poured once the main floor is in place.
The foundation is then backfilled to protect it from the weather and to allow ease of access to the building. Backfilling should only be carried out in relatively dry conditions and using the right kind of compactable material.
